WELCOME TO MY OCCASIONAL BLOG!

15.10.06

Our day began with a lie in, for the first time in so long!
Then we decided to take Bonnie out for a walk and we ended up along the canal at Little Bedwyn.

Every now and again I have to suffer the TV programme "Anthea Turner: Perfect Housewife" as Gareth thinks she is brilliant. Today I have to admit that one of her tips actually works. She recommends getting a ball of cotton wool, giving it a good soak in your favourite essential oil, and then putting it inside your vacuum cleaner bag or cylinder. When you next vacuum your home it will fill with the smell of the oil. I am currently sat surrounded by the smell of lavender!

So starts Gareth's first weekend without having to work since I met him in 2003. We decided to celebrate by going shopping, which may sound boring but it is something we have never really been able to do at a weekend like everyone else. Just wandering around the shops in Basingstoke and Reading was like a whole new experience for us!
Despite numerous recommendations I only got around to watching the film 'Brokeback Mountain' today, as it was on sale on DVD.

Absolutely superb.

05.10.06

I drove all the way to Bristol tonight to meet up with my good friend Scott and see my current fave new band 'Lorraine'. Unbeknown to us the gig had been cancelled, so we just had a chat, a quick drink and made our respective ways home.

04.10.06

I went to Portsmouth tonight to see Embrace again. As before they were absolutely brilliant!

04.10.06

03.10.06

I took Gareth to Cheltenham to see Alan Carr perform his comedy show tonight. I thought I might not enjoy it so much as I'd seen the routine a few weeks ago, but he was still hilarious! See him if you can!

There is an old saying:
"Let sleeping dogs lie"

I went to Bristol tonight to see Embrace. Whoever was in charge of the sound has done a great job because it was the best they have sounded for a very long time! Great gig!

24.09.06

I went to see Alan Carr perform his stand up comedy show in Winchester tonight. He was absolutely hilarious!

Gareth was supposed to come with me but unfortunately he has to attend a course at work from tomorrow and as its over 3 hours to travel there he has to travel this evening and stay in a hotel to ensure he gets there on time in the morning. I know how much he would have loved this show so I've booked for us to see it in Cheltenham in a few weeks. It was that good!

We planted some vines in the garden a few years ago and every summer the grapes get more numerous. This year has been a bumper crop!

After three years of very hard work Gareth qualified as a Nurse today!!
CONGRATULATIONS!

If only there were jobs available in Nursing he could make good use of all this training!

21.09.06

18.09.06

Gareth and I went to the cinema to see 'Little Miss Sunshine' tonight.

A really great film.

Another sunset and a different light...

I finished another book today too. 'Saturday' by Ian McEwan.

I've read a few of his books and I find I either love them or hate them i loved this one!

As the sun sets the light at the beach changes by the minute

12.09.06

Yet another relaxing day spent on the beach, reading, swimming, eating and drinking!

Luckily the waves soon took away our footprints or there would be one hell of a mystery for archaeologists in the future!

12.09.06

11.09.06

We decided to go a little further than the beach today so we got the bus to Skiathos Town, the main town on the island.

10.09.06

Another relaxing day spent on the beach, reading, swimming, eating and drinking!
And noting my unique footprints in the sand!

I also finished my first book of the holiday tonight and it left me crying like a baby! If you've ever owned a dog you must read "Marley And Me" by John Grogan, but have the tissues handy!

A relaxing day spent on the beach, reading, swimming, eating and drinking!

though all that heat can sometimes go to your head!

09.09.06

08.09.06

Today Gareth and I start our holiday and travelled to the small Greek island of Skiathos.
Our flight from the UK took us over some amazing scenery

and then over the island itself

12.08.06

I watched the film 'Lady In The Water' tonight and got totally wrapped up in it. A sign of a good film!

It's very typical of M.Night Shyamalan and I recommend it.

Every now and again I'll be driving with the radio on and a song lyric will just catch me unawares and strike deep.
Today I was listening to "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol which has the lines...

"
I don't quite know how to say how I feel
Those three words are said too much
They're not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me
And just forget the world"

Beautiful.

I travelled over to Cardiff tonight to see 'Lorraine' play my home town.
It was a really special night as I met up with friends Scott, Mark and David before the gig. Scott always has the ability to make me laugh every second I spend in his company, so a big thank you to all for a great evening!
The band were on great form tonight and I reckon they will have a few new fans after that performance!

We also got to chat with Anders after the gig, who remembered me from our brief chat in Bristol!

10.08.06

05.08.06

Gareth and I travelled to Cardiff yet again, this time to meet my mate Mark to go to the annual Big Weekend. It has to be said that it called also be called 'Ugly Pride' because the swamp donkeys just swarm there! You think you've never seen someone so ugly and badly dressed and then another one comes along and proves you wrong!
My main reason for going was too see the band 'Kubb' perform. They were excellent as always, well at least I thought so!

05.08.06

02.08.06

I travelled over to Bristol after work tonight to see my current favourite new band 'Lorraine' play at the Academy 2. They played a brilliant, if a little short, set and I was lucky enough to chat with guitarist Anders just before the gig too. Really nice guy.
