WELCOME TO MY OCCASIONAL BLOG!

27.12.05

Gareth and I travelled to Cardiff today to visit the family. It was great to catch up with everyone!

27.12.05

25.12.05

Happy Christmas! I've had such great and generous gifts! Definitely the best Christmas so far!

25.12.05

23.12.05

Due to company restructuring, the office where I am based was closed down today, so from January I will have a longer drive to and from work. It's very sad as it was such a great place to work and we were a great team.

23.12.05

22.12.05

Gareth and I did our Christmas food shopping this evening. I started in Morrison's in Gosport just after 8pm. It was empty. Completely empty. Just me and the staff! That's how it must feel to be a celebrity and have a shop open only for you...except it was Morrison's and not Harrods!
Next stop was Tesco in North Harbour, Portsmouth. It was so full there were queues down every aisle so we couldn't even get to the goods on the shelves! We gave up fairly quickly and moved onto Tesco at Whitely instead, which in contrast was almost empty! Bliss!

18.12.05

Two years ago today I first met Gareth, my partner. He has completely changed my outlook on life. Since that day I've been continuously happy. I treasure every day we are together.

18.12.05

16.12.05

Gareth and I went to Cardiff tonight to see "Little Britain Live". The show was brilliant and had greatly improved since we saw one of the earliest performances in October. To witness a Welsh crowd when "Dafydd, the only gay in the village" came on was worth the awful drive to the venue, through various sections of motorway roadworks and a 30 minute hold up whilst drivers slowed down to see an accident in the opposite direction!
Happy 45th Birthday to my sister Julie!! She doesn't look a day over..... answers by e-mail please!

My dog Bonnie really made me laugh during our morning walk across the fields. I noticed a cat sitting on top of a 3ft high fence post, so felt duty bound to point it out. Bonnie went running over and barked and jumped up at it. The cat gave her a look of disgust and casually started to swing her claws in Bonnies' direction, but they were too far apart to cause any damage. Bonnie quickly gave up and walked about 10ft away from the cat. Then she turned around and started to very slowly creep back, one leg moving forward every few seconds. It was hilarious as the cat looked on in disbelief! Bonnie never lost eye contact with the cat except for a brief moment where it seemed she turned her head in slow motion just to check I was still there behind her. She eventually stopped, completely still, about 4ft from the cat and they just stared at each, Bonnie deep in concentration and the cat deep in utter boredom! It took the words "do you want your breakfast?" to break the spell and get Bonnie to resume our walk home!

15.12.05

11.12.05

It was very frosty & misty when I took my dog Bonnie for her morning walk and the view across the fields had vanished!

10.12.05

The mouse that inhabits the house, now referred to as "Faye", wandered into my bedroom today. Once noticed, I expected it to dart away, but no, it looked at me, sniffed the air, and pottered off under a door. I feel the poison I bought last month may not be having the desired effect!

10.12.05

06.12.05

Gareth and I went to Portsmouth tonight to see 'League Of Gentlemen' perform. I felt it was a bit hit and miss, but the elderly gentleman sat next to me thought it was hilarious, especially on the frequent occasions when they said "fuck"! Bless him!
We ended the evening with our now traditional visit to a Gosport kebab shop! Mmmm!

06.12.05

26.11.05

We spent the day catching up with family & friends around Cardiff.
We met up with my good friend Mark in Cardiff Bay where the view was beautiful...well it is the city where I was born!

My nephew and his family were featured in the South Wales Echo today. Click here to read what was said.

26.11.05

25.11.05

Gareth and I took a trip to Wales today. A huge thank you to our friends Scott & Jon for letting us stay at their posh new house. At some point every time we meet up Scott & I like to reminisce about old times and, in particular, music, which usually heralds the playing of long lost old favourites. This tends to send Jon demented!! Today he managed to sum up his feelings perfectly when we started to reminisce: he sighed "I can feel the room turning black and white". Classic!!

25.11.05

23.11.05

It was really foggy as I drove through the lanes on my route towards the M4 motorway this morning. Visibility was greatly reduced so imagine my relief when I finally got on to the motorway and noted that the large illuminated signs were all stating "FOG". Now there was a weight off my mind, because without them I may have mistaken it for mist.

23.11.05

21.11.05

The view across the fields when I took my dog Bonnie for a walk this evening was beautiful.

I imagine the shepherds were delighted!

21.11.05

14.11.05

Travelled over to Bath to see 'Starsailor' tonight. I was joined by my mate Graham. The support band were 'Kubb' and they were absolutely brilliant. If this wasn't exciting enough, the legendary Peter Gabriel was also watching them, just a few feet away from me!
I've seen 'Starsailor' a few times already this year, but tonight was the best they have been. Superb gig!

14.11.05

11.11.05

Gareth's dog Bella came to stay with us this weekend. Being so used to a small dog, her size took some getting used to

and her unusual choice for sleeping comfort!

11.11.05

26.10.05

Gareth and I went to see the stage version of 'Little Britain' tonight in Portsmouth. Absolutely hilarious, particularly the 'Fat Club' sketch where we were reassured it's ok to eat cake as long as it's on a slice of Ryvita!!

26.10.05

22.10.05

Gareth and I dashed over to Wales today to see Louie!

22.10.05

21.10.05

The newest member of the family made his appearance at 4:20pm today. My great niece Ella now has a little brother, Louie! Congratulations to Leigh & Sarah!!

Happy Birthday to my partner, Gareth!

18.10.05

15.10.05

23 years ago today I saw my very first gig. Not surprisingly it was Depeche Mode! I recall actually having nightmares in the days leading up to that gig as I was so worried about travelling the 45 miles from Cardiff to Bristol. How times have changed. I'm currently sorting out all the logistics for the 11 concerts I will see them play in 5 different countries in 2006!

15.10.05

14.10.05

Had my first job interview in four years today. I'm amazed at how much I actually know. Either that or they just asked easy questions!

14.10.05

13.10.05

A big thank you to my former manager, Tim, who went through some challenging interview type questions with me this evening in preparation for the weeks ahead!

13.10.05

09.10.05

In 1981 Depeche Mode had their first hit single in the UK. 24 years and 40 hits later their 41st single entered the UK charts tonight at No.4. It is No.1 in five other European countries. Name me any other band who can still manage that after so many years?!!

09.10.05

07.10.05

Met up with my mate Graham and went to see 'Starsailor' at the Bierkeller in Bristol. All together a very civilised gig. Just after we arrived the band came on stage, played for just over an hour, were fantastic as usual and it was all over by 9:35pm. I even managed to get home at a decent hour!

07.10.05

06.10.05

Went up to London tonight to attend the ExileInside album launch!
A fabulous gig in an amazing venue, Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush. There were even chandeliers!!
If you want to order a copy of the new album

and see my name listed in the cd booklet, click the picture of the sleeve above!

06.10.05

05.10.05

Got my redundancy letter today, confirming that I'll be unemployed from January 1st 2006. My office will be closed down on December 23rd. Merry Christmas?

Finally sourced a humane mouse trap in a small Wiltshire village shop. The woman who sold it to me was keen to point out that if I should catch a mouse I was not allowed to release it as that would be considered 'releasing vermin' and was against the law. Quite what I am lawfully allowed to do she did not divulge, but added that should I catch a squirrel the same law applies. Now I'm sure I'm not alone in the fact that I am forever catching squirrels. Just how I'll manage now I'm aware of the law doesn't bear thinking about!

29.09.05

26.09.05

Went over to Cardiff today to catch up with family and go to a gig. Great to see my Dad and his partner Pam before heading over to my sisters house where I couldn't believe just how much my great nephew Daniel had grown!
Then met up with my mate Mark to see the Stereophonics play to a home crowd on the last night of their UK tour. Excellent gig!

26.09.05

24.09.05

I can finally link up my iPod to my car! I bought a new car stereo and had it fitted by Citreön today. I couldn't get it done elsewhere as the original stereo is conveniently linked to the electronic system in such a way that its removal can cause the central locking to fail. So its a good job I had it professionally done, as by the time I got home my central locking had failed!

24.09.05

21.09.05

Following on from last years very successful "I'm A Mouse, Get Me Out Of Here", (see March 2004) evidence has now been found that we are once again the holiday destination for the rodent about town. I will now be seeking out a new humane trap as the final mouse of 2004 ate the last one!

21.09.05

20.09.05

Got an e-mail from my sister Glenys today with a fab picture of her with my great niece Ella and great nephew Daniel.

20.09.05

19.09.05

It was stated on Radio 5 earlier today that due to the current fuel crisis, some petrol stations in 'remote areas' were known to be charging up to £1.00 for a litre of fuel. Well Dean's Garage in Marlborough is hardly remote but sees fit to currently charge £1.05 for a litre of petrol and a whopping £1.08 for litre of diesel!!! I may have worked in the town for 4 years but have never been desperate enough to stop there to fill up.

19.09.05

31.08.05

Went to see ExileInside play at the Marquee in London's Leicester Square. An unusual place in the fact that there is a lift that takes you up to the floor where the live venue is located. A great gig apart from the vocals, as for some reason it sounded like Jake was singing from inside a cardboard box!

31.08.05

20.08.05

The final day of our European Trek was spent relaxing at Berlin Zoo where I saw my first Panda

and Gareth got to ride a Hippo....

sort of!

20.08.05

19.08.05

After such an exhausting day yesterday, what better way to start today than by climbing the 285-step spiral staircase to the observation platform of the Siegessaeule (Victory Column)

with views across the Tiergarten and the city

followed by a visit to the 492ft high Funkturm TV tower, which thankfully has a lift

and equally amazing views

19.08.05

18.08.05

A busy day of sightseeing including the museum of Checkpoint Charlie,

the 1,197ft high Fernsehturm TV tower

with views of up to 25 miles,

the remains of the Berlin Wall,

the Brandenburger Tor

and the Reichstag

with it's rooftop glass dome designed by Sir Norman Fowler

and views across Berlin

18.08.05

17.08.05

An early start today as we flew from Amsterdam to Berlin in Germany. We decided we wanted to visit the former concentration camp at Sachsenhausen where some original buildings still remain, including ovens, and there is a dedication which reads:

A haunting place.

We then travelled to Grunewald train station from which more than 50,000 Berlin Jews were deported to concentration camps from its 'Track 17' between October 1941 and February 1943. There is now a memorial along the edge of the long disused platform highlighting every departure date and the amount of people deported, the majority of whom would not live to return.

17.08.05

16.08.05

We visited Madurodam today. It is a huge model village in The Hague where all of Holland is represented, including the obligatory windmills,

and clogs too!

16.08.05

15.08.05

We travelled to Amsterdam and spent the day wandering the shops and the sights, never more than a few steps away from a bicycle or a canal!

15.08.05

14.08.05

My sister Julie kindly drove Gareth and I to Brussels in Belgium today where we did some sightseeing including the famous Manneken-Piss

and the
Atomium, which is currently being renovated

14.08.05

12.08.05

We're in The Hague today in Holland and the weather is a complete contrast to what we've been accustomed to. Even the local heron looks depressed as it sits outside my sister Julie's apartment block in the pouring rain!

I learnt that it is fed by one of the neighbours and regularly waits outside!

12.08.05

11.08.05

Italy today!! We got the train to the little Italian seaside town of Ventimiglia with its mixture of historic old town

and beautiful beach

before heading back to Nice airport to catch our flight to Holland!

11.08.05

10.08.05

Got the bus over to Monaco today. After taking in

the view over the harbour from the Prince's Palace

we toured the home of the Royal family,

then onto the Oceanographical Museum to visit Nemo,

and finally to Monte Carlo and its famous casino.

10.08.05

09.08.05

Spent the day exploring Nice in glorious sunshine. We walked up to Vielle Ville where the views of

the town

and Promenade Des Anglais were stunning

09.08.05

08.08.05

Gareth and I set off on our summer holiday today. An eventful drive to Luton airport where we got stuck in traffic on the motorway and then had to utilise Gareth's Satellite Navigation system to locate the car park!
We arrived at check-in just as it opened so were first in line. Great flight down to Nice in the South of France and then a bit of a walk from the terminal building to the hotel.
We then got the local bus into the centre of Nice for something to eat and a wander around, including seeing the famous Negresco Hotel all lit up.

As it was late there were no buses to take us back to the hotel so we decided to walk! A very long walk!! Slept well that night!
