My involvement with ExileInside began on June 14th 2001, six months after the demise of 'My Life Story'. I attended an album launch gig for 'Night On Earth' by Rialto and after the gig I was about to head off home when I noticed none other than Jake Shillingford at the bar. As you can see from elsewhere on this site I am a BIG fan of Jakes' work and couldn't miss this opportunity to tell the man himself! He was exceptionally friendly and introduced me to Aaron Cahill with whom he had just started a new project...'ExileInside'. He told me about their website, www.exileinside.com, which would be the main source of information for all things 'Ei'. He even agreed to have his picture taken with a few of us too!! |
In October 2001 a request was made, via the website, for fans and friends of the band to 'invest' in the producing of the debut album. I had more than enough faith in Jake and Aaron to offer to be one of these 'investors'. I soon received 'Investor CD 1' which included 4 songs in demo form. Listening to those songs confirmed my faith in the band. More demos followed and soon the first 'live' performance of some of these songs was announced. |

A 'live acoustic session' was held in the dimly lit basement of the "The Sun & 13 Cantons" pub in London on May 1st 2002. The place was packed for this momentous event and we were rewarded by a beautiful set from Jake, and on keyboards, Mal Cambell. |
More low-key gigs followed until the official 'debut' gig at the 'Barfly @ The Monarch' in Camden on June 10th 2002. Another packed gig to a very appreciative crowd! More shows around the capital followed, furthering the name and reputation of the band, culminating in a 3 date 'residency' throughout August 2002 to celebrate the release of the debut album on August 26th. |
